Welcome to our Journals.

You have found a portal behind the scenes and straignt into our world. This is a place where we will be recording our thoughts, hopes, dreams and experiences to share to our friends and family, the wider world and to use as a reocrd to look back on in later years.

We hope that you find all of this interesting, and enjoy diving into the videos, essays and even just links to the things we find interesting. This is kind of a blog section, kind of a journal for each of us, and kind of a place to find inspiration, maybe some education and certainly some funny and lighthearted moments.

The search button may be of use in this section as we develop it. Haylee will be posting content and resources around home schooling, being a busy Mum whilst being in confined spaces, and the complexities around running a busy family. David will be no doubt posting long rambling essays with links to books worth owning, thoughts on maintaining a business, workload and a 30 year old boat. The girls will be entertaining to say the least, and the boys may be posting stories of mayhem and adventures, some videos, and probably even links to their favourite on boat toys!!

We met up with The Press writer Freddie for a quick chat.

| The Captain | Captains Log

After the success of a recent video on our Knot Nauti Youtube channel, Freddie Wilkie from the South Island newspaper "The Press" contacted us wanting to know more about our lifestyle and story. On a wet and blustery midsummers day he heading up to Havelock and met with us all aboard the Oriental Lady. The article they have published is behind a paywall, if you have a subscription to The Press click here to view it, if not keep on reading as I have recreated it below.

Resurrection, 7 Ragged Tigers and a New Moon on Monday

| The Captain | Captains Log

4 summers into this crazy escapade it is time to revisit just how we got here. It is a tale that encompasses many twists and turns but ultimately hinges on the importance to young men of mentors and the guidance to become a person that pays attention to the present and ultimately learns the ability to capture the little details to store it all for later, to then apply discipline and long game thinking and carve out a lifestyle that generates joy and freedom. This is the Art of War applied to life, but in a nice way....

Learning about the tide

| The Captain | Alex and Max find fun

The tide, and the flow of water, is a crucial part of staying safe on the boat, especially when the channel to enter and exit the marina is only able to be attempted a few hours either side of high tide due to the 1.5 metre draught on our boat. In this journal entry Dad is helping me write down my thoughts on the tide, and Max gets to work making a cool drawing!

We also made a video about the depth of water in one of our favourite bays at low tide and high tide, so check that out in the article.
